From seasonal celebrations to small-town traditions, these events reflect the heart of what makes Summerville feel like home.

If you’re new to the area or thinking about making Summerville your next home, these family-friendly festivals offer a true taste of what life here feels like.

Flowertown Festival (April)

Spring in Summerville wouldn’t be the same without the Flowertown Festival. Each April, Azalea Park and the surrounding streets transform into a celebration of art, local flavor, and blooming beauty. Hundreds of vendors line the streets, showcasing handmade goods, delicious food, and live music.

The Flowertown Festival spans an entire weekend and has become a beloved tradition that draws visitors from all over the country. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy time with your family, catch up with friends downtown, and grab a bite to eat from a food truck or one of the many local restaurants offering patio seating. From toddlers to grandparents, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Flowertown Festival is one of the most popular things to do in Summerville each spring and a celebration of the community’s small-town warmth and hospitality.

Sweet Tea Festival (September)

Summerville takes pride in being the birthplace of sweet tea, and the Sweet Tea Festival brings that story to life each fall in downtown. The event features local vendors, sweet tea tastings, food trucks, and family-friendly entertainment.

You’ll find us sipping tea samples, exploring booths, and enjoying the sunshine while the kids enjoy games and treats. The walkable setting, outdoor seating, and shaded spaces make this one of the most relaxing and enjoyable events for families.

Bonus: If you can’t make it for the actual festival, be sure to swing by the courtyard of the Summerville Municipal Complex to see the ‘World’s Largest Sweet Tea’—a fun and quirky photo op that’s become a local landmark.

Summerville Italian Feast (October)

Each autumn, Summerville’s Main Street transforms into a lively celebration of Italian culture, music, and mouthwatering food. This is one of our favorite food festivals in the Lowcountry—a celebration of heritage, flavor, and community spirit.

You can find live music, homemade pasta, wood-fired pizza and kid-friendly activities that allow everyone in the family to have a good time. Many downtown restaurants join in on the fun, offering Italian-inspired specials and outdoor seating that lets you enjoy the festival right from your table. It’s festive, flavorful, and one of the most delicious ways to spend a fall afternoon in Summerville.

Mayfest on Main (May)

Mayfest is a local favorite that kicks off the summer season with live music, local artists, handmade goods, and plenty of fun for the whole family. It’s one of those relaxed, sunny-day events where there’s something happening on every corner.

It’s one of our favorite ways to spend a Saturday—browsing craft booths, letting the kids explore activity stations, and enjoying lunch from a local café or food vendor with outdoor seating. With space for kids to play and plenty of outdoor seating, it’s an easy, low-stress way to spend time together as a family.

Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting (December)

Summerville’s annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony are long-standing traditions that bring the entire community together. From school bands to locally made floats and the lighting of the tree in Hutchinson Square, it’s one of the most meaningful and festive nights of the year.

Families often enjoy dinner downtown before the parade and gather along Main Street to take in the lights, music, and celebration. It’s a heartwarming event that captures the charm of the holiday season.

These annual events are more than just things to do—they’re part of what makes living in Summerville so special. On any given weekend, you’ll find a farmers market filled with fresh produce and baked goods, live music in the square, or spend the afternoon browsing one of the town’s many antique shops. Many restaurants offer patio seating, so it’s easy to spend a whole afternoon outside enjoying food, music, and community.
